Isla Vista Foot Patrol Thwarts Robbery and Arrests Narcotics Traffickers
Isla Vista - February 5th, 2013
At approximately 8:30 P.M. on 2/2/13, an Isla Vista Foot Patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on local UCSB student, James Chung (12-22-92) for vehicle code violations. During the contact, Chung was found to be in possession of over ¼ pound of processed marijuana and approximately $2,000.00 in cash. Further evidence was located in which indicated Chung possessed the marijuana for sales purposes. He was arrested for – Possession of sales of marijuana, transportation of marijuana and other charges. He was booked into jail with bail requested at $200,000.00 due to repeated felonious offenses.
Deputies reviewed evidence seized in the case and found that Chung was en route to an apartment in the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive to meet another narcotics trafficker. Deputies continued their investigation and found that unbeknownst to Chung, the other trafficker was going to rob Chung for the currency.
Deputies and officers from the University Police Department responded to the scene and contacted the other drug trafficker, identified as Jorden Gendron (6-4-92). The information on the planned robbery was corroborated and he was subsequently arrested for attempted robbery, 664 / 211 P.C. Gendron was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $50,000.00.
A search warrant was conducted at Gendron’s residence later in the evening. Approximately 1.5 pounds of processed marijuana, over 1 ounce of cocaine and $3,000.00 in cash was seized. Arrested at the scene were Santa Barbara City College students Francesco Iemoli (10-24-92) for violation of – Possession of cocaine for sale, Connor Field (1-27-93) for violation of – Possession of cocaine for sale and Christopher Tuszynski (12-19-90) for violation of – Possession of marijuana for sale. All three additional subjects were booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $30,000.00 each.
