Public Assistance Requested to Identify Body Found

Description of Female Victim Released

Goleta- The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office requests the public’s assistance in helping identify a college-aged female whose body was discovered at 8:20 this morning in the water near Campus Point at UCSB.  Detectives from the Coroner’s Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Bureau have been unable to identify the victim and hope by releasing her description that someone might know who she is or may have information to assist in their investigation.

The young woman is a college-aged Caucasian with Hispanic features, 5’8” tall, thin build, with long brown hair that hung past her shoulders and brown eyes.  She was wearing a purple sundress with a black tank top underneath and black lace-up boots.

Because of the thousands of people attending Deltopia this weekend, a large spring break party in Isla Vista, it is unknown whether the victim is local or from out of town.

Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1.

The Death is Under Investigation

Goleta— The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office is investigating the death of a college-aged, female whose body was discovered around 8:20 this morning in the water near the surf-line west of  Campus Point at UCSB.  The body was discovered by a jogger who was running on the beach.  Because the victim was not wearing any identification, the Coroner’s Office is in the process of identifying who she is and the circumstances that led to her death.  Although this may be an accidental death, our Criminal Investigation Division Detectives are conducting a concurrent criminal investigation until a determination is made that foul play is not involved.

This is all the information we are able to release at this time.  We will send out an updated release when an identification is made and next of kin is notified.
