Suspect Wanted Following Pursuit is Finally Arrested
Suspect in Violation of Not Registering as a Sex Offender


Los Alamos - April 22nd, 2013

A suspect who led a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy on a pursuit outside of Lompoc on April 14th, drove his car over an embankment and fled on foot prompting a massive search to find him that involved Deputies, a K9 unit and Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit Copter 3 along with California Highway Patrol Officers and Lompoc Officers is finally behind bars. 27-year-old Michael Ibison of Los Alamos was arrested last night April 21st, one week after the pursuit.

At around 11:30 p.m., a resident noticed a suspicious car on her property located in the 3500 block of Highway 135 outside of Los Alamos and called 911.  Deputies responded and contacted Ibison and his girlfriend in the vehicle which had false license plates.  Ibison was identified as the wanted suspect from the pursuit and was also found to be in possession of a methamphetamine pipe.   It was also determined that Ibison had not completed his annual registration requirement as a sex offender.

Ibison was arrested and taken into custody for the previous violations of 10851 VC – Grand Theft Auto and 2800.2 VC – Felony Evasion.  He was also charged with 11364 H&S for Possession of a meth pipe and 4462.5 VC for Possession of false license plates.  He was also charged with 290.012 PC for Failing to register annually as a sex offender.

The pursuit on April 14th, started on Harris Grade around 5:30 p.m. outside of Lompoc.  A Deputy saw a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle.  When he attempted to pull over the suspect, the driver sped off prompting a pursuit that reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.  The Deputy dropped the pursuit when the chase entered the residential area of Mission Hills for safety reasons.  The suspect then intentionally drove his car over and down a 150 foot embankment behind Los Berros Elementary School and fled on foot.  Despite the resources spent trying to locate him, he managed to get away.  Ibison was recognized during the pursuit and has had previous contacts with law enforcement.

He is in the Santa Barbara County Jail and is being held on 75,000 dollars bail.  The case has been turned over the District Attorney’s Office.
