Carpinteria Juvenile Arrested for Assualt and Robbery at Bus Stop

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the violent assault and robbery of a Carpinteria woman at a bus stop this past Saturday night, April 29, 2017 in the 4000 block of Via Real.  The 27-year-old victim was assaulted at approximately 8:50 p.m. while waiting for a bus and was dragged to a nearby field where she was robbed.

Following the violent crime, the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division launched an investigation to locate and identify the person responsible.  The investigation identified a 17-year-old Carpinteria resident as the suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained.  Today, Sheriff’s detectives located the suspect in the City of Carpinteria and arrested him on charges of robbery and kidnapping in order commit a robbery.  A search warrant was served at his residence following the arrest.

The juvenile was transported to Santa Maria Juvenile Hall where he remains in custody.  Due to the fact the suspect is a juvenile, no additional details will be released.

 

 

Carpinteria Woman Violently Attacked and Robbed at Bus Stop

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is requesting public assistance to help identify and locate a suspect responsible for violently attacking and robbing a woman at a bus stop this past Saturday night in the City of Carpinteria.  The incident happened at approximately 8:50 p.m. on April 29, 2017 in the 4000 block of Via Real. 

 

The 27-year-old victim was sitting on a bench at a bus stop waiting for the bus when she noticed an unknown male wearing dark clothing standing behind her.  The male, who appeared to be in his twenties, then grabbed the victim and started striking her.  The victim screamed for help and fought back.  After a violent struggle, the suspect was able to force the victim’s purse away from her and fled the area. 

 

The victim managed to run away and call 911 for help.  Sheriff’s deputies including a K9 team responded to the area and conducted a thorough search for the suspect.  He was not located. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. 

 

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and personnel from the Sheriff’s Forensics Unit responded to process the crime scene and collect evidence.  Due to the active investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.
