Sex Registrant in Custody After Cutting Off GPS Device
Buellton - May 21st, 2012
A registered sex offender suspected of removing an electronic monitoring device from his ankle is back in custody and being held in the Santa Barbara County Jail.
Last week, State Parole alerted law enforcement that Albert Lee Allen (DOB 7/31/58) was suspected of cutting off his GPS tracking device on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 near Highway 101 and Highway 246 in Buellton.
At approximately 4:00pm on Friday, May 18, 2012, an off duty Deputy Sheriff was walking his dog in the 600 block of Central Avenue when he observed Allen emerge onto the street from a nearby driveway.
The deputy recognized Allen from an earlier “Be on the Lookout” alert and was aware that Allen was wanted by State Parole for cutting off the tracking device.
The off duty deputy contacted the Santa Barbara Emergency Communications Center which alerted the on duty Buellton patrol deputy, the Buellton traffic deputy, and six additional Sheriff’s deputies, who were in the area on an unrelated detail.
Allen attempted to flee when he saw the deputies but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
Allen was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for the no bail Parole violation
