Gas Station Robbery Suspect Arrested

A local transient was arrested Wednesday morning for robbing a gas station and assaulting the clerk. The suspect was located several hours later in a nearby field by a Sheriff’s Detective, after obtaining video images from the surveillance cameras at the Mobil Gas Station, located at Turnpike Road and Hollister Avenue.
On July 25, 2012, just before 5:00am, a male subject entered the Mobil gas station, located at 4801 Hollister Avenue in Santa Barbara, and demanded that the clerk give him cash from the register. The suspect then used a metal flashlight to attack the clerk, striking him repeatedly on the head. After taking about $100.00 from the gas station’s money drawer, the suspect fled northwest towards the Turnpike Shopping Center.
Deputies responded to the scene and began searching for the suspect. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department along with AMR paramedics responded and transported the victim to Cottage Hospital, where he was treated for moderate injuries and released.
Several hours later, a Sheriff’s Detective conducted a search of the field behind the shopping center and located the suspect. The suspect, Eric Moldoven, DOB: 3/4/1968, was arrested without further incident and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of Robbery, Burglary, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Moldoven’s bail was set at $1,000,000.00.
