Vehicle Chase in Goleta Ends in Crash
Santa Barbara County- August 21st, 2013
At around 12:15 this afternoon, August 21, there was a verbal dispute involving
four individuals at the Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta. Following the
argument, which was apparently over drug related issues, the individuals jumped
into two separate vehicles and a chase ensued. Two males were driving in a dark
blue Lexus sedan and were followed by a male and female in a silver Subaru
The vehicles headed northbound on Storke Road
to Glenn Annie Road and through the El Encanto Heights area and finally
eastbound onto Cathedral Oaks Road. During the chase, the drivers were
traveling at a high rate of speed and crossing the double yellow lines to pass
other vehicles. At the corner of Cathedral Oaks and the 500 block of Camino
Laguna Vista, the driver of the dark blue Lexus sedan, failed to negotiate a
turn, crashed into a tree and took out part of a fence located at a residence.
When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived they found all
four individuals involved and both vehicles. The driver of the dark blue Lexus
sedan, a 28 year old Santa Barbara resident was taken to a local hospital for
minor injuries. The passenger, a 20 year old Isla Vista resident was not hurt.
The driver of the silver Subaru wagon, a 21 year old Bay Area resident and his
girlfriend a 23 year old Goleta resident who had also been living in the Bay
Area were not injured in the incident.
The crash is under investigation and the
drivers of both vehicles face potential reckless driving charges.
