Victim Escapes After Robbery and Assault by Transients
Goleta- September 6th, 2012
A male victim was attacked by two transients near the Shell gas station located at Fairview and Calle Real. The victim escaped the attack after being cut in the forehead while the two transients attempted to take the victim’s wallet and bicycle. While conducting a traffic stop in the area, a CHP Officer noticed the assault and called deputies in to assist.
Deputies found the victim in front of Zodo’s Bowling Alley bleeding profusely from the head. The victim gave deputies a description of the two suspects that matched two local transients known by law enforcement. John and Gena Curry were located behind the Vons grocery store on Fairview Ave. and determined to be the suspects. Deputies then learned that Gena Curry was possibly the one who cut the victim and may have hidden a knife. John Curry showed signs of involvement in a fight.
Both John and Gena Curry were booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery. A search at the jail uncovered a box cutter knife on Gena Curry’s person. Both suspects are being held on $50,000 bail. The victim was treated and released from Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.
