SBSO Arrests Two Men for Attempted Murder

Los Alamos - September 8th, 2011

Two men from Los Alamos are in the Santa Barbara County Jail today after being arrested for attempted murder.

At approximately 9:13pm on Friday, September 2, 2011, the Santa Barbara Emergency Dispatch Center received several calls reporting multiple gunshots in the area of 500 block of Waite Street in Los Alamos. Through their investigation, Sheriff’s deputies were told that there had been a dispute over a loan between a 31-year old man from Los Alamos and 23-year old Los Alamos resident Gregory Miranda (DOB 1/24/88).

At approximately 9:13pm, Miranda and 18-year old Ivan Uribe (also of Los Alamos, DOB 3/16/93) went to the man’s residence and knocked on the door. The victim’s wife opened the door at which time Miranda is said to have asked to speak with the victim. Instead, the woman closed the door, as her husband armed himself with a handgun and went into the backyard.

The man says he looked over the fence and saw Miranda and Uribe standing near the street. The man says when he called to Miranda to show his hands, Miranda pulled out a handgun and fired at least two rounds at the man. The man says he fired two shots in the air prompting Miranda and Uribe to run away. As they fled, several gun shots from Miranda’s direction hit the front of the man’s house.

No one was hurt in the exchange. During their investigation, Sheriff’s deputies and detectives were able to link both Miranda and Uribe to the shooting.

At approximately 12:00pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, Sheriff’s detectives, accompanied by the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team (similar to SWAT), served a warrant at Miranda’s residence on the 800 block of Bell Street in Los Alamos. At that time, Uribe was present and was taken into custody. Two hours later, they arrested Miranda when he arrived at the residence.

Both men were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail last night for attempted murder (664/187 PC) and criminal conspiracy (182 PC). Both men are being held on $500,000 bail. More charges may be filed pending further investigation.
