Barricaded Parole Arrested After Standoff
Orcutt- September 29th, 2012
On Friday, September 28, 2012 about 7:30pm, deputies responded to the 200 block of N. Pacific St in Orcutt. Upon their arrival, they encountered the reporting party, a female resident of an apartment. She reported that her husband had been involved in a domestic argument with her and that her husband was under the influence of drugs.
Deputies discovered that the male was a wanted parolee, who was reportedly armed with a firearm and who was hiding in a nearby apartment with an adult female. When deputies attempted to make contact at the other apartment, they were denied entry. The female was contacted and taken into custody for obstructing the officers. Rubi Acevedo (dob 02-24-76) As a result of taking Acevedo into custody, deputies made entry into the apartment and found that the male was in the process of barricading himself in the upstairs bedroom. Jose Villarreal (dob 12-27-84) failed to comply with deputies orders to surrender and continued to place household material against the entry door in an attempt to prevent deputies from entering the bedroom.
At that time, about 15 minutes after initial contact with the residents, deputies requested a Special Enforcement Team (SET) and Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) response in order to take Villarreal into custody. The immediate area in and around the apartment building was evacuated using Sheriff’s and Guadalupe Police patrol forces. Through the efforts of the HNT team in communicating with Villarreal, he voluntarily gave up to the deputies of the SET team about 11:15pm. Villarreal was taken to the Santa Barbara County Jail in Santa Barbara and booked on the no-bail parole warrant and drug charges (possession of methamphetamine (11377H & S) and under the influence of methamphetamine (11550 H & S ) and obstructing an officer (148pc) they observed within the apartment. Ms Acevedo was booked into the Santa Maria Branch Jail for 148pc (obstructing an officer).
