Identity of Victim Fatally Injured in Traffic Collision Released

The Sheriff’s Office is releasing the identity of the woman who was fatally injured in a traffic collision on Monday, November 11, on Cathedral Oaks Road in the City of Goleta.  The decedent is 59 year old Shuguang Lui of Beijing, China.  She was pushing a baby stroller across the street when she was struck and killed by a car.  Lui is related to the 20 month year old baby boy who was in the stroller and was critically injured in the collision.  The baby is in stable condition and recovering well from his injuries.

The fatal traffic collision is still under investigation.





Sheriff's Office Investigates Fatal Traffic Accident in City of Goleta


City of Goleta - November 12th, 2013

A 20 month old baby boy from Goleta is in critical but stable condition following a traffic accident that occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. last night, November 11th.  A female adult, who was not the child’s mother, was pushing the baby in a stroller across Cathedral Oaks Road at Santa Marguerita Drive in the city of Goleta when she was struck by a vehicle heading westbound.  The woman was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.  The baby was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. 

The driver of the car is an 18 year old Goleta resident.  The accident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team.  No further details regarding the accident are being released at this time.

The identity of the decedent is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
