Two Arrested in Isla Vista After Shots Fired
Isla Vista - November 17th, 2012
On Saturday, November 17th, at approximately 0112 hours, Santa Barbara Sheriff Deputies on routine patrol responded to a call of multiple gun shots fired in the 6500 block of Sabado Tarde Road in Isla Vista.
Upon their arrival, a possible suspect was observed fleeing the area westbound. Citizens directed deputies to the area of 6573 Sabado Tarde, and law enforcement officers set up a perimeter around the area to contain the incident. During this time a male subject, later identified as Thomas Christensen, crawled out of a window at the aforementioned address and was detained. A witness identified Christensen as the suspect who possessed the handgun.
Another subject, Brett Harris, was observed inside the residence, but refused to come outside when deputies called to him. The Special Enforcement Team (S.E.T) was called to the scene believing that Harris may be armed and dangerous. S.E.T responded and eventually made contact with Harris. Harris refused to comply with SET’s orders and was ultimately taken into custody for 148 PC. (Resisting arrest, obstructing or delaying a peace officer)
Christensen was brought back to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol where he was interviewed by investigators about the shots fired. Christensen was taken into custody for 246.3 PC (shooting a firearm with gross negligence) and 25850(c)(6) PC (carrying a loaded firearm – not the owner). One of Christensen’s roommates arrived at the scene and was interviewed by deputies as well. The roommate was determined not to be directly involved, but gave deputies information related to the case. Also, several handguns and related ammunition were recovered from the residence and booked as evidence.
No one was injured during the incident. Both Thomas Christensen and Brett Harris were booked into Santa Barbara County Jail. Thomas Christensen’s (DOB: 2/20/1991) bail was set at $35,000 dollars. Brett Harris’s (DOB: 9/1/91) bail was set at $2,500 dollars.
