5 Drivers Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint in Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara County - December 20th, 2013
'AVOID The 12' conducted a multi-agency DUI and driver's license checkpoint on Saturday December 21st and Sunday December 22nd between 8:00 PM and 3:00 AM in the 400 block of Chapala Street in the City of Santa Barbara. This operation was one of 17 DUI enforcement operations that will be or have been conducted throughout Santa Barbara County during the 20 Day Winter Mobilization Period which runs from Friday, December 13th through Wednesday, January 1st. Officers from the Alcohol and Beverage Control (ABC), Guadalupe, Santa Barbara, and UCSB Police Departments worked alongside deputies from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office at the sobriety checkpoint. Here are the results of the checkpoint:
Vehicles Screened: 550
DUI Arrests: 4
Felony Arrest: 1
Driving without a Valid Driver’s License: 6
Driving with a suspended driver’s license: 1
Vehicles Impounded for 30 days: 1
Vehicles Impounded for 1 day: 7
Miscellaneous citations: 3
Lori Elizabeth Bates (10-12-60) of Oxnard was arrested for DUI.
Bahtia Eryon Bilow (07-30-89) of Santa Barbara was arrested for DUI.
Kristi Ann Krenta (10-04-77) of San Diego was arrested for DUI.
Marc Dohn Ritzema (06-26-77) of Pasadena was arrested for DUI.
Felip Monterosa (02-19-91) of Goleta was arrested for felony possession of a concealed knife and possession of marijuana.
‘AVOID The 12” will also have a DUI Task Force in the City of Santa Barbara on Saturday December 28th between 6:00 PM and 4:00 AM.
Extra local DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed in the cities of Goleta, Guadalupe, Lompoc, Santa Barbara, and Santa Maria through January 1st.
The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown is led by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), with the California Avoid DUI Task Force Campaign combining high-visibility enforcement and heightened public awareness and impaired driving deterrence through publicity.
‘AVOID the 12’ refers to the number of Law Enforcement agencies in Santa Barbara County that you will avoid being in contact with should you chose to drive sober.
DUI arrest data collection will continue through New Year’s Weekend, midnight Sunday, January 1, 2014.
