Santa Barbara's AVOID The 12 DUI Crackdown Takes Third Place in Law Enforcement Competition
Santa Barbara - JUNE 24th, 2010
Avoid the 12, Santa Barbara County’s law enforcement crackdown on drunk driving, has tied for third place in the state with Monterey County’s Avoid the 18, in the multi-jurisdictional category for 2009 by the California Law Enforcement Challenge.
The competition judged entries on officer training, policies, public information, officer recognition, enforcement and results.
“This award recognizes the excellence of our police officers, deputies and CHP officers in keeping the streets and highways of the county safer from the heartbreak and destruction drunk drivers so often cause,” remarked Deputy Win Smith, Avoid the 12 coordinator.
Alameda County’s Avoid the 21 took first place. Jan Ford of Palo Alto is the public information director for all four winners in the multi-jurisdictional category.
There are 41 countywide Avoid crackdowns in California, all funded by OTS through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
