Sheriff's SWAT Team Ends Standoff
Orcutt - January 14th, 2009
A man from Orcutt is in custody this morning following an overnight standoff near Waller Park.
At approximately 9:30pm Tuesday, January 13, 2008 the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department received a report of shots fired near Orcutt Road and Stubbs Lane. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to find anything based on the information given.
About an hour later, the SBSO received new information that a man with a shotgun was seen entering a residence on the 3200 block of Orcutt Road. When deputies arrived they heard what sounded like a shotgun blast from inside the duplex, so they immediately began to evacuate about one dozen nearby residences.
A perimeter search revealed a window in the unit had been shattered and two vehicles parked in a lot across the street had been damaged from what appeared to be a shotgun blast.
The SBSO SWAT Team soon arrived and negotiators began efforts to contact the man believed to be inside the duplex. After several failed attempts to communicate with the man, members of the SWAT Team eventually gained entry and at approximately 4:20am were able to apprehend 26-year old Daniel Wise who was barricaded in a bedroom inside his residence.
Deputies arrested Wise for felony Negligent Discharge of a Firearm. He will be booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.
