Body Recovered From Ocean

Montecito, Shark's Cove - February 4th, 2009

Public safety crews have recovered a body in the ocean near Montecito.

Crews from Montecito Fire, Carpinteria-Summerland Fire, American Medical Response and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department responded at approximately 2:22pm this afternoon after a citizen reported seeing a body in the surf near Lookout Park.

Crews were eventually able to locate and recover the body from an area known as Shark’s Cove. Due to the advanced decomposition of the body a positive identification is not immediately available.

Once the Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau can make a positive identification and the next of kin is notified, the Sheriff’s Department will release the name. This may take several days.
