Indentities of Highway 101 Crash Victims
Los Alamos - March 3rd, 2009
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau has released the names and photos of all six victims killed in a single vehicle crash south of Los Alamos on Thursday evening, February 19, 2009.
Due to the severity of the thermal injuries to several of the victims, Coroner’s Detectives were forced to use dental records to make positive identifications. Sgt. Gregg Weitzman of the Coroner’s Bureau said, “This was a tremendously difficult and challenging case. Five of the victims were from out of the country. Our Detectives worked through foreign embassies to contact the victim’s families which provided medical and dental records that were then translated into English.”
Weitzman thanked the CHP which is conducting the investigation into the crash. He especially wanted to thank the families of the victims for their invaluable assistance despite having to cope with a horrible tragedy. The families also provided photos of the victims which they would like to share with the media.
