Deputies Make Arrest for Embezzlement

Carpinteria - March 12th, 2009

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a woman suspected of embezzling more than $850-thousand dollars from her employer.

On December 11, 2008 the owner of Windsor Capital Group, reported that he had discovered an administrative assistant had been embezzling funds. The suspect, 37-year old Angela Phillips of Montecito, had been in charge of expenditures for the victim and the victim’s business.

Phillips is suspected of using the victim’s credit cards and online accounts to make numerous purchases for travel and other products, for her, her family and her friends. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was also funneling checks and funds from the victim’s checking account into a fraudulent account that she had opened in both her and the victim’s names. She was also forging checks made payable to the victim and depositing them into this fraudulent account which was opened without the victim's knowledge.

On March 10, 2009, a warrant was obtained for the arrest of the suspect, charging forgery, embezzlement and white-collar crime enhancements. A bail of $850,000.00 was obtained. On March 11, 2009 Phillip’s attorney brought her to the Carpinteria station, where Phillips was arrested on the warrant and subsequently booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail.
