North County Citizen's Academy - Buellton

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department would like to invite you to attend the Sheriff’s North County Citizen Academy. The first class begins on Wednesday April 1, 2009, from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the Buellton City Council Chambers, 140 W. Hwy 246, and continues through Wednesday May 6, 2009. The last class is a Graduation BBQ and will be held on Saturday May 9, 2009 from 10:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. Your family is invited to attend the graduation BBQ, where specialty unit displays and demonstrations are tentatively planned.
The citizen’s Academy was developed to educate citizens about the role of local law enforcement and to give them a better understanding of the operations of their local Sheriff’s Department. Citizens will engage in some hands-on law enforcement training in the exciting 6-week course. Participants in the Citizen Academy must be 18 years of age or older.
Topics covered include: Department History, Tour of the Main Jail and Emergency Communications Center, Training of a Deputy Sheriff, Firearms at our indoor range, Forensics, Criminal Investigation Division, Air support, SET, Narcotics, K-9, Mounted Unit, Bomb Squad, Community Resources, Sheriff Volunteer Team, and Explorer Program.
