Search & Rescue Team Saves Missing Hiker
Mission Canyon- March 28th, 2009
Members of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team were activated at 11 pm Friday March 27, 2009 for a search of a 26-year old female missing off of Tunnel Trail in the Mission Canyon north of the City of Santa Barbara.
The missing subject had gone for a late afternoon hike up to La Cumbre Peak via the Cathedral Peak Trail. When she failed to return home as anticipated her family contacted the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's department which in turned paged out its all volunteer professional search and rescue team.
After initiating a search SBCSAR personnel located the woman approximately 30-feet off of Tunnel Trail on a steep cliff. While not injured, the woman was stranded and could not move without potentially falling further. Using ropes SAR members rescued and helped her down the trail back to her waiting family at the trailhead.
