Search and Rescue Team Saves Paraglider

NY Man Trapped in Tree 80 Feet Above Ground

Santa Barbara- May 2nd, 2010


Personnel from the Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue team, a volunteer professional team under the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, responded Sunday, May 2nd at 2:30pm to a report of a paraglider trapped in a tree in the area of Rattlesnake Trail near Skofield Park. 

Upon arrival, Search and Rescue crews found a 36-year old male visiting from New York, NY, hanging in his harness approximately 80-feet up a tree over a creek bed.  While uninjured, the paraglider was dangling precariously in the tree branches. 

Search and Rescue personnel climbed the tree and set up rope systems to access the paraglider and transfer his harness to the rope systems whereupon he was lowered safely to the ground.  The incident was concluded at 4:15 pm with the paraglider being released.
