Lost Hiker Found Above Steven's Park

Santa Barbara - May 14th, 2010

On Thursday, May 13, 2010 at approximately 4pm a 58-year old female went for a solo hike up San Roque Canyon north of Steven's Park.  Following 30 minutes of hiking the subject became disorientated and lost.  After about 30 minutes of trying to relocate the trail which she had wandered off, she dialed 911 and contacted the Santa Barbara County Dispatch Center. 

Personnel from the Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue Team along with Santa Barbara County Sheriff Aviation Copter 4 responded and initiated a search at approximately 5:15 pm.  Copter 4 deployed a team of Search and Rescue members into the canyon and then conducted an air search for the lost subject. 

Additional Search and Rescue units started from Steven's Park and worked up the canyon searching for the subject.  At approximately 6pm a SAR ground team located the subject uninjured down in the creek bed north of Steven's Park and hiked her back to her car at Steven's Park. 

Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue is an all volunteer organization under the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.
