Sheriff's Detectives Arrest Gas Station Gunman

25 Year Old Suspect Shot Clerk During Robbery

Goleta - May 20th, 2010


A masked gunman who shot an unarmed gas station cashier Tuesday night near Santa Barbara is now in custody.

An anonymous tip, coupled with investigative leads, revealed 25-year old Matthew Daniel Hamby (DOB 3/11/85) as a possible suspect. With the assistance of State Parole, Hamby was taken into custody without incident on Thursday afternoon, May 20, 2010.

Sheriff’s Detectives conducted searches at multiple locations Thursday including a home in the Mission Hills area near Lompoc where Hamby lives.

Hamby was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail Thursday evening for Attempted Homicide (664/187 PC) and Robbery (211 PC). He is currently on a no bail hold for violating parole.
