Sex Offender Arrested for Failure to Register

Carpinteria - July 16th, 2009

A registered sex offender is back in jail tonight after failing to re-register in Santa Barbara County.

Joaquin Carreno III (DOB 5/7/62) was last known to live in Buellton. Recently, lifeguards alerted the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department that Carreno had been in Carpinteria loitering on the beach and talking to himself.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation and determined that Carreno was living in his vehicle in Carpinteria in violation of 290 P.C. registration requirements. 290 registrants are required by law to register with local law enforcement within five days of moving to a new location.

On Thursday, July 16, 2009 Sheriff’s Detectives took Carreno into custody on an arrest warrant for violating 290 P.C. registration requirements. Carreno was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on $20,000 bail.
