Explorer Academy
Santa Barbara- July 22nd, 2009
The annual Central Coast Law Enforcement Explorer Academy is underway. Each year, newly selected law enforcement explorers from a coalition of agencies from the Central Coast attend the Law Enforcement Explorer Academy where they learn the basics of the law enforcement profession and a framework is established for their agencies to build upon throughout their remaining years in the program.
Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grad and are 14-21 years of age. The Explorer Program is for young people with interests in the fields of law, law enforcement or public safety. This program helps youth to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. The intent of law enforcement exploring is to educate and involve youth in law enforcement operations, to interest them in possible law enforcement careers, and to build confidence and responsibility. For more details on the program, visit http://www.learning-for-life.org/exploring/lawenforcement.
The academy is sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department being held at Lakeview Junior High School in Santa Maria. It began July 13th and concludes on July 24th. Agencies represented include the Lompoc, Santa Maria, Guadalupe and Paso Robles Police Department’s and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
