Missing Teenager Found Dead

Los Olivos - July 23rd, 2009

A two day search for a missing Los Olivos teenager has ended with the discovery of the 17-year old’s body in a creek bed about a half mile north of Figueroa Mountain Road.

Denis "Oige" Branan Keane was last seen at 6am Wednesday, July 22, 2009 when he left his home to ride his bicycle. After several hours had passed his brother became concerned and drove up Figueroa Mountain Road to try and find him. At approximately 2:30pm that day, he discovered Oige’s (pronounced OH-gee) bicycle just off the road at the Biradet Canyon trailhead which is about two and half miles east of the Neverland Ranch entrance.

Sheriff’s Deputies, the Sheriffs volunteer Search and Rescue Team, and the Sheriff’s Helicopter began a search from the ground and air which lasted into the night. The ground search continued until approximately 2am on Thursday. The Sheriff’s Department resumed the search at 6am on Thursday, July 23, 2009 with the help of Search and Rescue Teams from Ventura, San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles Counties. The Sheriff’s helicopter rejoined the search as well as three K9’s.

At approximately 9:41am searchers found Keane’s body in a creek bed. At this time, there does not appear to be any foul play. Sheriff’s Detectives will work to determine the cause and manner of death which the initial investigation suggests was an accident.
