Rape Arrest

Goleta- July 31st, 2009

Sheriff’s Detectives have arrested a man suspected of raping a client at a residential assisted living facility in South Santa Barbara County.

On Thursday, June 18, 2009 a 36-year old special needs client told one of her caretakers at the facility that another caretaker had sexually assaulted her at the facility on June 13, 2009.

An investigation by Sheriff’s Detectives led to the arrest of Christopher Robin Coates (DOB 4/28/74) at his home in Goleta early Wednesday morning on July 29, 2009.

Coates was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on several sexual assault charges including lascivious acts with a dependent adult and dissuading a witness.  His bail is set at $100,000.

At the time of his arrest Coates was no longer employed at the facility. Due to the nature of the crime (sexual assault) the name of the victim and her address will not be released.
