Sheriff's Detectives Arrest Sex Offender

Santa Maria - August 13th, 2008

The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department, Criminal Investigations Division recently received information that from 2000 – 2003, Charles Paul Fernandez (DOB: 11-25-65) had sexually assaulted a minor child for several years in the Santa Maria, CA area. The victim during that time period was between the ages of 7-10 years. At the time, Fernandez was dating the victim’s mother and working for Lockheed Martin.  As a result of the investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Fernandez on August, 6, 2008 at his home in Ridgecrest, CA for Aggravated Sexual Assault against a Minor Child.  He is currently in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail and held in lieu of no bail. 

In 2005, Fernandez was convicted of sexual assault with an unrelated minor child and ordered to register as a sex offender in Kern County, California. At the time of his arrest Charles Paul Fernandez was a current and registered sex offender.

In past years Fernandez has been known to live in Clear Lake, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona and Ridgecrest, California. It is believed that Fernandez had other dating relationships with single mothers in these cities. The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Division is asking that anyone with information regarding Charles Paul Fernandez to contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, Detective Wolff at 805-934-6171.
