Sheriff's Department Citizen's Academy, Class# 1-2008, Starts September 10th, 2008
Santa Barbara County - September 3rd, 2008
The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department would like to invite all citizens and potential volunteers, ages 18 and older, to attend the North County Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy, beginning Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 6:00pm. The first class will be held at the Solvang Veterans Hall, located at 1745 Mission Drive. Classes will be every Wednesday evening for six weeks, and held at a variety of locations throughout the County, with a Graduation BBQ on Saturday, October 18, 2008.
The Citizen’s Academy was developed to better educate the public in the duties and training of your Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies. It also helps to foster a mutual trust and cooperation with law enforcement and the residents we serve. Attendees will meet Sheriff Bill Brown, tour the County Jail, Dispatch Center, interact with Sheriff’s Detectives, shoot real and simulated firearms, test your skill in driving, and meet the “real people behind the star.” All potential volunteers with the department are required to attend a Citizen’s Academy. If you are interested in learning more about our Sheriff’s Department, or would like to learn more about the volunteer opportunities available, please contact Sr. Deputy Charlie Uhrig at (805) 452-8073.
Class size is limited, so get your applications now. Applications are available at any of the North County Sheriff Sub-stations. Please fill out and return to any Sheriff Station by Tuesday, September 9, 2008, attn: Sr. Deputy Uhrig-Solvang.
