Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department Ordinance Enforcement
Santa Barbara County - September 12th, 2008
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the public of County Ordinances 24-28, 24-29, and 24-30, which were amended earlier this year to extend the prohibition of operating motor vehicles on unimproved private property to also include unimproved public property. These ordinances prohibit the operation of a motorized vehicle on unimproved public or private property in the unincorporated areas of the County (absent the express permission of the property owner). The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department will take the necessary law enforcement actions if a motorist violates these ordinances.
Any person who violates these ordinances and is convicted of the offense shall be: (1) guilty of an infraction offense and punished by a fine one hundred dollars ($100.00) for a first violation; (2) guilty of an infraction offense and punished by a fine of two hundred dollars ($200.00) for a second violation within one year; (3) the third and any additional violations within one year shall constitute a misdemeanor offense and shall be punishable by a fine of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or six months in jail, or both.
