Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Explorers Win Awards at Local Competition
October 17 , 2007 - Santa Barbara County
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department maintains an active Law Enforcement Explorer Program with 5 posts and 27 Explorer’s stationed throughout the county. Law Enforcement Explorers are individuals ages 14 through 20 who have an interest in Law Enforcement activities and a possible career in Law Enforcement.
Sheriff’s Explorers attend regular meetings and engage in ongoing training and education through the Sheriff’s Department to learn about law enforcement activities and community involvement.
During the weekend of October 12-14 the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department Explorers participated in the Central Coast Explorer Competition which was held in Paso Robles. There were approximately 44 individual explorer posts representing 22 law enforcement agencies throughout California. Explorers competed and were evaluated in areas such as DUI investigation, interview skills, written exams, high risk vehicle stops, building searches, suspicious subject investigations, shooting skills and vehicle searches.
The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department Explorers enjoyed the competition and received three awards. Post 830 (Goleta) placed first in Vehicle Searches and second in Shooting Skills. Post 34 (Lompoc) placed fourth in the Suspicious Subject scenario. Overall, the competition was a great success for all of the explorers. The opportunity to test their skills and network with other explorers throughout California was appreciated by all who participated.
The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department Explorer Posts welcomes individuals who may have an interest in Law Enforcement Exploring. For more information visit the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department website explorer page at http://www.sbsheriff.org/gi/ep/index.html.
