Goleta Standoff Ends Peacefully

Goleta - October 11th, 2008

Just before 8pm on Saturday, October 11, 2008 the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint from a citizen on the 400-block of Camino del Remedio in Goleta that a neighbor had been banging on the wall for an extended period of time.

Deputies were dispatched to check on the welfare of the individual. After deputies knocked on the door a woman inside the unit announced she had a gun, threatened the deputies and broke off contact.

Deputies evacuated several neighboring units as they tried to communicate with the woman, but were unable to reach her by telephone. Eventually they were able to make contact with the woman using a bullhorn. She agreed to come out of the unit and was taken into custody around 10pm.

This potentially dangerous situation was resolved in a peaceful manner with no injuries to the woman or the deputies who responded.
