Halloween Safety Tips

Santa Barbara County - October 29th, 2008

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department would like to be a part of a safe and sane Halloween for the residents of Santa Barbara County. The following are a few safety tips for parents and children who will be participating in the season’s festivities:

  • Nobody should trick or treat alone; always have at least two friends with you.
  • Young children should be accompanied by an adult.
  • Have a cell phone with you for emergencies.
  • Plan the route you choose to walk ahead of time and tell parents where you are going.
  • Accept treats in doorway and never go inside of a house or apartment.
  • Only visit houses where the lights are on.
  • Wait until you get home and have an adult check the treats before you eat them.

  • Residents who would like to report a neighborhood complaint during this event are encouraged to call 911 for prompt service from units already deployed in the field.
