Sheriff Brown Names New Department Spokesman

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown appointed a new Spokesman for the department effective today, December 3rd 2007.  Sergeant Alex Tipolt will assume the position of Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s Department.  Sgt. Tipolt comes to the position of PIO from his last assignment as the departments North County Gang Team supervisor.  Sergeant Tipolt can be reached through all of the same phone numbers currently on file for the Department’s Public Information Officer.  The main office number is 805-681-4053 and cell number is 805-689-2384.  Sgt. It is with mixed emotion that I write this last press release announcing my successor.  I have served as the Sheriff Department’s Public Information Officer and Spokesman for nearly three years.  It has been an exciting and rewarding position and one that I will always cherish.  I began my stint as PIO entertaining the worldwide media during the Michael Jackson Trial in 2005 and the excitement has not stopped since.  Announcing the capture of Jesse James Hollywood and informing the public about the tragic events at the Goleta Postal Distribution Center Shootings are just a few of the memories I will carry with me.  I am proud to have served as the Department’s Spokesman for former Sheriff Jim Anderson as well as Sheriff Bill Brown and thank them both for the opportunities.  I would like to also thank all of the media I have worked with over the years.  Without you the public would not be so well informed about the work that the men and women at the Sheriff’s Department perform every day.

One of the benefits of a career in Law Enforcement is the variety of assignments one can enjoy in a thirty year career.  I am looking forward to my next assignment as a Patrol Sergeant at the Sheriff’s Isla Vista Foot Patrol station.  It has been an honor to have served the public as their Public Information Officer and I look forward to continuing to serve in my new assignment.
