Sheriff's Detectives Seek Public's Help in Capturing Thief
Santa Barbara- December 10th, 2009
Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Detectives hope surveillance video helps them capture a suspected thief who drained money from his victim’s bank account during stops at banks throughout the Central Coast.
Sheriff’s Detectives began investigating in mid November, 2009 when the victim reported they had discovered someone had repeatedly withdrawn hundreds of dollars from their bank account."
The investigation revealed that the suspect had obtained personal information which allowed him to create a bank card in the victim’s name. The suspect then used the fraudulent card to withdraw large sums of money from at least five different banks between Thursday, November 12, 2009 and Monday, November 16, 2009.
Detectives have obtained surveillance photos of the suspect withdrawing money from the Bank of America on Upper State Street in Santa Barbara on Friday, November 13, 2009 at approximately 12:39pm. The suspect withdrew money from the following banks:
Thurs. Nov. 12th 21:38Hrs Bank of America Carpinteria Ave. Carpinteria
Fri. Nov. 13th 12:39Hrs Bank of America Upper State Santa Barbara
Sat. Nov. 14th 07:33Hrs Wells Fargo S. Broadway Santa Maria
Sun. Nov. 15th 16:18Hrs. Chase Bank Mission Oaks Blvd. Camarillo
Mon. Nov. 16th 05:11Hrs Chase Bank East Alisal St. Salinas
The suspect stole $2,500 from one person alone; detectives believe there may be more victims. If anyone has information regarding the man in the photo, please contact Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Detectives at (805) 681-4150 or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171.
