Debut of New Isla Vista Foot Patrol Station
Isla Vista - December 10th, 2008
On Wednesday, December 10, 2008 the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department’s new Isla Vista Foot Patrol Station opened its doors to the media.
The two story building features 53-hundred square feet of work space along with a 1,400-hundred square foot covered secure loading area for patrol vehicles.
For the first time in the nearly four decade long existence of the Isla Vista Foot Patrol Station deputies will be working in a facility specifically built for law enforcement operations. “This is a great opportunity to see first-hand how this modern building will enhance our goal of community oriented policing in Isla Vista,” said Lt. Brian Olmstead who oversees operations at IVFP.
The state of the art energy efficient building will also house members of the UCSB Police Department and the CHP who combine to serve the citizens of the Isla Vista and the UCSB Campus. Santa Barbara County funded the $4.2 Million facility which rests on UCSB land secured through a 40-year lease
(Note: IVFP was one of the nation’s first examples of community based policing when it debuted in 1970.)
