Sheriff's Investigators Identify Additional Victim in Boy Scouts of America Volunteer Investigation
December 17th, 2007
On December 5th, 2007, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Al Stein, Volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America in Santa Barbara. Sheriff’s Detectives were first informed of the allegations on December 4th, when a minor who is also a Boy Scout came forward after telling his parents of the lewd conduct by Stein while at a Boy Scout Christmas Tree lot.
Since the initial media coverage of the allegations of inappropriate conduct by Al Stein, a second victim has come forward. The second victim, a 12 year old former Troop 36 Boy Scout, confided in his parents telling them of the inappropriate conduct by Al Stein. This incident occurred earlier this year during a Boy Scout function in the City of Goleta. His parents then contacted the Sheriff’s Department to report the incident.
Al Stein is expected to appear before a Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge for his arraignment on January 7th, 2008. Sheriff’s Detectives continue to investigate these allegations and are looking to the public for more information. Any persons with information about Al Stein are encouraged to contact Sheriff’s Detectives at the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Headquarters, 681-4150.
