Carpinteria Assault Case Fugitive Apprehended

Carpinteria / Ventura County - December 22nd, 2008

A felony fugitive who has been in hiding for more than 1 1/2 years after taking part in a violent gang assault on a citizen in Carpinteria is now in custody after being apprehended in Ventura County.

On Monday, December 22, 2008 at approximately 9:00pm State Parole with the assistance of Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies located and arrested without incident 28-year old Eddie Galvez (dob 3/23/80) at an apartment in Oak View, near Ojai in Ventura County.

He is currently being held in Ventura County and will be returned to the Santa Barbara County Jail in the next few days.

The other five individuals who took part in the June, 2007 attack had been taken into custody in the days immediately following the incident. They are:

Lawrence Brennen       Pled guilty to 4 counts of Battery w/Gang Enhancement. Sentence: 5 yrs. Suspended

David Jimenez                        Pled guilty to 4 counts of Battery w/Gang Enhancement. Sentence: 5 yrs. Suspended

Daniel Jimenez           Pled guilty to 4 counts of Battery w/Gang Enhancement. Sentence: 5 yrs. Suspended

Juan Alcala                  Pled guilty to Assault w/Deadly Weapon w/Gang Enhancement. Sentence: 8 years State Prison

Anthony  Garibay           Pled guilty to Assault w/Deadly Weapon w/Gang Enhancement. Sentence: 10 years State Prison

Gang Fight in Carpinteria Leads to Five Arrests and One Outstanding Suspect

 

An incident involving six Carpinteria gang members lead to five arrests and the search for an outstanding suspect.  At approximately 9:00 pm on Wednesday evening (6-6-07), witnesses at a local restaurant and bar observed a group of six Hispanic males described as “gang members” involved in a verbal altercation with four other subjects on the street at Carpinteria Ave. and Eugenia Ave.  The altercation quickly turned violent when the six subjects attacked the four.  The altercation involved a fist fight, no weapons were seen.  The four victims sustained minor injuries from the attack. 

 

A witness to the initial assault called 911 on his cell phone to report the fight.  The witness was confronted by the suspects, who then tried to take his cell phone.  The witness attempted to run, but was overtaken by the four suspects.  The witness was punched and kicked, then had his cell phone stolen.  He sustained internal bleeding, a broken rib, sprained knee, and numerous cuts and bruises during the assault (He was treated and released at an area hospital).

 

Responding deputies quickly located four of the six suspects in the area of 9th St. and Yucca Ln. in Carpinteria.  Deputies contacted the four subjects, but one immediately fled the area, the other three were identified by witnesses as being involved in the attack on Carpinteria Ave. and were taken into custody.  The three suspects arrested were 19 year old Lawrence Brennen (8-31-87) of Carpinteria, 20 year old David Jimenez (7-30-86) of Carpinteria and 23 year old Daniel Jimenez (1-11-84) of Carpinteria.  All three were booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of battery, with a gang enhancement and held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

 

Sheriff’s Detectives immediately began investigating the assault, and identified the remaining three suspects.  On Thursday morning, Sheriff’s detectives arrested two additional suspects.  21 year old Juan Alcala (10-8-86) of Carpinteria and 26 year old Anthony Garibay (6-14-81) of Carpinteria were arrested a booked for Robbery, Battery with Serious Injury, Dissuading a Witness with a gang enhancement.  Alcala is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail and Garibay, who was just released from prison, is being held without bail. 

 

Sheriff’s Detectives are searching for one outstanding suspect; 28 year old Edward Galvez Jr. of Carpinteria.  There is currently a $250,000 warrant for his arrest.  He is wanted for Robbery, Battery with Serious Injury, Dissuading a Witness all with a gang enhancement.  He is also wanted on a parole violation.  He is possibly in the company of 20 year old Shelby Ann Sanchez driving a 1986 white Volvo station wagon, Cal. License 2PCS918.
