Four Additional Sheriff’s Office Employees are COVID-19 Positive

Santa Barbara, Calif. – An additional Deputy, Custody Deputy and two civilian staff members are COVID-19 positive. The Deputy last worked on December 23, 2020 and became symptomatic on December 24, 2020. The Deputy was tested and found to be COVID-19 positive on December 29, 2020. The Deputy did not have contact with the public.

The Custody Deputy, who is asymptomatic, was tested as part of employee surveillance testing yesterday. The Custody Deputy was notified, while at work today that the result of the test was positive.

The first civilian staff member works remotely and was reported to be COVID-19 positive on December 28, 2020. The second civilian staff member, who is asymptomatic, last worked on December 9, 2020, was tested on December 28, 2020 and found to be COVID-19 positive on December 29, 2020. All staff members consistently wore masks while at work.

This brings the total number of Sheriff’s Office employees who have tested positive for COVID-19 during the entire pandemic to 79.
