Goleta Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Goleta man for an attempted murder that occurred early this morning. On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at approximately 2:09 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital for a victim who had been stabbed several times and rode a bicycle to the hospital with serious injuries.

Deputies initiated an investigation, and subsequently learned the stabbing took place near Highway 217 and determined that the suspect was 32-year-old Juan Diaz-Chevez of Goleta. Deputies continued their investigation and located Diaz-Chevez in the Old Town Goleta area.  He was arrested without further incident in the area of Magnolia Avenue and Mandarin Drive at approximately 4:42 a.m.

Diaz-Chevez is being held at the Main Jail for attempted murder (felony) with a bail set at $1,000,000. The victim is expected to recover. Based on the follow-up investigation, detectives believe there are no additional suspects outstanding.
