Human Remains Found in Ocean

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on July 24, 2018, Sheriff’s Deputies from our Isla Vista Station and UC Santa Barbara Police responded to the beach access at Camino Pescadero Park in Isla Vista to investigate a report of possible human remains in the ocean.  When Sheriff’s Deputies and UC Santa Barbara Police Officers arrived, they confirmed human remains were indeed in the ocean.  Santa Barbara County Fire water rescue responded and assisted in recovering the remains.

The human remains are in a significant state of decomposition and incomplete.  Due to the level of decomposition, further determination as to age, sex and the identity of the remains will take time.  There were no indications of foul play and the remains were taken to the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Office for further investigation into the identity of the remains and the manner and cause of death.
