Isla Vista Man Arrested After Brief Stand-Off

An Isla Vista man has been arrested on domestic violence charges after a brief stand-off with deputies. On Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at approximately 11:39 hours, deputies responded to the 6700-block of Sueno Road to check the welfare of a possible domestic violence victim.

When deputies arrived, they determined that the suspect, 36-year-old Jered Harwin was inside the residence with the possible victim. Deputies were familiar with Harwin and recalled that he is known to own and possess firearms. Deputies attempted to have Harwin exit the residence so that he could be contacted safely, but he refused. Additional resources including a Sheriff’s K9 and the Special Enforcement Team responded to assist.

Harwin eventually surrendered, walking outside on his own and was taken into custody. The female victim was transported from the scene with significant injuries and she is expected to recover. Harwin was booked at the Main Jail for domestic violence (felony), assault with force possibly causing great bodily injury (felony), battery with serious injury (felony), preventing or dissuading a witness (felony), and false imprisonment (felony). Due to the seriousness of the charges, deputies requested a bail enhancement and Harwin remains in custody with no bail.
