UPDATE: Motorcyclist Killed in Traffic Collision – Identity Released

The Sheriff’s Office is releasing the identity of the motorcyclist who died in the traffic collision last Friday. The decedent is 58-year-old Daniel Harris of Goleta. This investigation remains ongoing.

Goleta, Calif. –  At 3:54 p.m. 9/4/20, Sheriff’s deputies along with County Fire and AMR responded to the intersection of Cathedral Oaks Road and King Daniel Lane on a report of a traffic collision involving a white Dodge truck and a white Yamaha motorcycle. The collision caused the motorcycle to catch fire, which then spread to a nearby tree. Within minutes of arriving on scene, first responders pronounced the motorcyclist deceased and the fire was extinguished.

Prior to the collision, the motorcycle had been traveling eastbound on Cathedral Oaks Rd and the truck was traveling westbound on Cathedral Oaks Rd. The investigation is ongoing, but it appears the Dodge pickup truck turned left toward King Daniel Lane in front of the motorcycle. The driver of the truck remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators.  Cathedral Oaks Rd was closed for several hours while investigators with the Sheriff’s Major Accident Response Team collected evidence and conducted further investigation.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification to next-of-kin. This investigation is on-going, and the identity of the driver is not yet available for release.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Senior Deputy Jeff Farmer at (805) 961-7514 or by email at jlf3077@sbsheriff.org.
