At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, June 26, 2018, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Maple High School in Lompoc regarding a report of several students who were potentially under the influence of a controlled substance. A Sheriff’s School Resource Deputy assigned to the Maple High School and Cabrillo High School campuses was on scene and able to quickly intervene and work with Maple High School staff to locate the involved students. Santa Barbara County Fire Department and Santa Barbara County Probation personnel responded as well. A total of six students, both males and females, were transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital for further evaluation. They were all treated and released to their families.
The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Lompoc Unified School District to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Because the case is under investigation and involves juveniles, no additional details will be released at this time.
At no point was there a threat to the students or staff at Maple High School.
