In the days of old, the Sheriff was the only lawman in an entire county.  In times of trouble he had to enlist a group of civic-minded people to form a posse to help pursue and apprehend dangerous criminals or rescue fellow citizens from disaster.

Today’s Santa Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse helps the Sheriff and his deputies in a different but equally important way- economically. The ravages of the recession hit our organization hard.  The effects of a constrained county budget and diminished human and material resources are still being felt.  But, the generosity of the Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse has helped up obtain and use much need emergency equipment, including protective vests, night vision goggles, specialized weapons, computer equipment and even a headquarters barn for our Mounted Enforcement Unit and a state-of-the-art rescue helicopter.

The Sheriff’s Posse serves as a vital resource in its on-going mission to support the urgent and unfunded Sheriff’s Office needs.  We are grateful for this dedicated and generous non-profit group and we encourage our community to support the Posse and its important mission.
