Santa Barbara, Calif. – Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Goleta man in connection with an arson investigation related to the Farren Road vegetation fire.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at approximately 8:23 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Farren Road following reports of a vegetation fire. The reporting party provided deputies with a description of a vehicle seen near the apparent origin of the fire that was believed to be associated with the incident.
When deputies arrived in the area, they located a vehicle leaving the scene and detained the occupants. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a package containing three illegal fireworks, along with evidence indicating that additional fireworks had previously been removed from the packaging.
Based on the investigation, deputies arrested 19-year-old Alex Karim Henin of Goleta on arson-related charges. He was booked at the Main Jail. Formal booking charges and bail information are pending.
Juveniles who were present at the scene were released to their parents.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that illegal fireworks pose a serious danger, particularly during dry conditions and in areas with vegetation that can ignite rapidly. Even a single firework can spark a fast-moving vegetation fire, placing lives, homes, and first responders at risk. Residents are urged to avoid the use of illegal fireworks and to report suspicious activity immediately.
