Santa Barbara, Calif. – Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Carpinteria man following an investigation that resulted in the seizure of over 9 pounds of dangerous drugs including fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine along with a firearm and ammunition.

As part of a proactive narcotics investigation, detectives identified 41-year-old Kenneth Rivas of Carpinteria as a suspect and obtained a search warrant.

On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at approximately 1:47 p.m., detectives located Rivas driving near Calle Real and Turnpike Road in Santa Barbara. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and took Rivas into custody without incident.

Detectives subsequently served the search warrant at Rivas’ residence in the 1200 block of Vallecito Road in Carpinteria. During the search, detectives seized approximately 3.2 pounds of suspected fentanyl, 6.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, 1 ounce of suspected cocaine, a handgun, ammunition and approximately $1,100 in cash. This seizure equates to approximately 14,528 potentially lethal doses of fentanyl.

Rivas was booked at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail on felony charges including possession of narcotics for sale and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person. He is being held on $35,000 bail.
