Detectives Share Update in Search for Missing At-Risk Child

Lompoc, Calif. – Sheriff’s detectives are continuing their search for 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard, sharing an update in the case, and refreshing their request for the public’s assistance. With the assistance of Lompoc Unified School District, detectives have confirmed that Melodee was seen as recently as August 2025.

“Lompoc Unified School District deserves credit for recognizing that something wasn’t right, reaching out, and continuing to assist with this investigation” said Lieutenant Chris Gotschall from the Criminal Investigations Division. He added, “This important update helps narrow a significant gap in the timeline of when she was last known to be seen and because of that, we’re closer to understanding what happened to Melodee.”

Detectives continue to work to locate Melodee and ensure her safety. Her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, has been uncooperative with investigators, and detectives have not received any verified information about Melodee’s current whereabouts.

Anyone who has seen Melodee Buzzard or has had contact with her in recent months is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at (805) 681-4150. Those wishing to remain anonymous can provide information through the tip line at (805) 681-4171 or online at SBSheriff.org.
