Man Cited for Trespassing After Jumping Fence Into Jail Perimeter While Eluding ICE

Santa Barbara, Calif.  –  Sheriff’s deputies cited a recently released suspect for trespassing after he jumped a fence into the secured perimeter of the Main Jail and was injured.

On Friday, March 27, 2026, at approximately 8:34 a.m., a Sheriff’s deputy noticed a vehicle blocking the entrance to Sheriff’s Headquarters. The occupant of the vehicle identified himself as being with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and told the deputy they had attempted to apprehend a suspect who fled on foot and jumped a fence along the east side of the jail perimeter.

The deputy checked the area and located 25-year-old Jhonathan Cosme Antonio of Carpinteria hiding between storage containers inside the secured, fenced exterior perimeter of the jail. The deputy observed that Cosme Antonio was injured while jumping the fence and requested fire and medical personnel to respond.

Cosme Antonio was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries for treatment and was issued a citation for trespassing.

At approximately 9:34 a.m., deputies were requested to assist with keeping the peace while ICE arranged to have their disabled vehicle towed. Deputies provided traffic control to assist the tow truck with accessing the vehicle and clearing the roadway. The vehicle was towed without further incident.
