Join us in congratulating our Santa Barbara Sherif

Join us in congratulating our Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office Youth Explorer Program, Post 32, on their 1st place overall title at the Central Coast Law Enforcement Explorer Competition! This one-day competition was held earlier in the month at Cuesta College and was hosted by the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office.
Team members included Explorers Abraham Villanueva, Naomi Jimenez, Joseph Esparza, Bradyn Moseley, Elizabeth Ramirez, Seth Santana, Wesley Armsheimer, and Alexis Solorio. In addition to the 1st place overall title, they placed 1st in Domestic Violence Investigation, 1st in High-Risk Stop, 1st in Hostage Negotiation, 1st in Burglary in Progress, 1st in the Bicycle Obstacle Course, 2nd in Vehicle Search, and 3rd in the Female Obstacle Course.
These accomplishments are an example of the skills, teamwork, and passion for our profession exhibited by our young explorers. These individuals represent the future of law enforcement and embody our commitment to community engagement and the pursuit of excellence.
We would also like to extend a thank you to the dedicated mentors of our team who contribute their time and efforts in the development and potential of these young leaders; their guidance and unwavering support for this program have been instrumental in shaping our Explorer’s success.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that Dr. Cherylynn Lee has been recognized by the @theiacp (IACP) as a recipient of the prestigious 2023 ’40 Under Forty’ award. Dr. Lee’s dedication and contributions to the field of police psychology have earned her this well-deserved honor.

Sheriff Bill Brown commented on Dr. Lee’s achievement, saying, “Dr. Cherylynn Lee is a remarkable woman and psychologist who is an expert in her field of police psychology. In addition to overseeing the Sheriff’s Office’s contributions to our collaborative Mental Health Co-Response Program in partnership with the Department of Behavioral Wellness, and our Employee Wellness and Peer Support Programs, she is a prolific author, has her own after-hours practice, and fulfills her most important role as a loving wife and mother to two young children. She constantly strives to help our people and those we serve become stronger and better, and to improve our agency and our profession. We are very proud of her and especially pleased that the IACP selected her to receive one of its prestigious 2023 ’40 Under Forty’ awards.”

Dr. Lee’s exceptional work in the field of police psychology and her tireless dedication to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office have left an indelible mark on the community. Her leadership in the Mental Health Co-Response Program and her commitment to the well-being of her colleagues have been instrumental in fostering a stronger and more resilient law enforcement agency.

The IACP ’40 Under Forty’ award is a highly competitive recognition that celebrates the accomplishments and leadership of young professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of law enforcement. Dr. Cherylynn Lee’s passion for improving the lives of law enforcement personnel and the communities they serve has made her a role model and a source of inspiration to her peers. The Sheriff’s Office congratulates Dr. Cherylynn Lee on this well-deserved honor and applauds her continued dedication the Santa Barbara County and the field of police psychology.
